Vacation in a Honda Fit? Will it all "Fit"? No problem!

Some people may look at the new Fit and laugh at its size and muscle, but I have to tell you from personal experience the Fit is nothing to laugh at. My family recently took our 400 mile old Fit on an 800 mile round trip vacation and the vehicle was so impressive I felt I needed to provide a few brief observations.

My wife and I have owned a few Honda vehicles in my 10 years here at the dealership including a 97 Civic HX Coupe, 99 Accord EX Coupe, 88 Prelude Si, 91 CRX Si (still have), and a 02 CR-V. The CR-V was the vehicle being replaced this time around and the Fit was the first vehicle of interest, especially since it was going to be released right at the end of our current Honda lease. Although I had seen the vehicle at some of the auto shows, seeing the Fit in person for the first time was a little scary. Not that the car looked "scary" but rather that it looked too small for my family. Our CR-V always had plenty of room for all the "baby stuff" and although some of those items no longer were needed, my wife and I were not sure our upcoming vacation would be successful in our new Honda Fit. Boy were we wrong! The Fit is indeed Go!

Power
Every car mag complains about vehicles not having enough horsepower and the Fit of course is no exception. While I agree a few more horses wouldn't hurt the vehicle does very well. Taking the hills in Pennsylvania were no problem and in fact more of a joy than taking the same trip in our CR-V. The Fit was more quiet and believe it or not climbed the hills with more ease than our 02 CR-V. The combination of cruise control and paddle shifters made climbing hills a breeze.

Comfort
I have a bad back so the Fit seats are not as comfortable as they could be for me, but a $13 lumbar pillow quickly fixed that problem! With the pillow in place I can easily drive all day without pain or discomfort.

Mileage
No doubt fuel mileage is the favorite topic for most people these days. So how did the Fit do? Well, on the first tank we achieved an OK 34 mpg but on the second a sweet 39mpg. I believe on less hilly terrain 40mpg or better should easily be attainable.

Cargo Space
Moving down in size from the CR-V was indeed a concern but no longer. Yes you can "fit" a lot in a Honda Fit! Enough said.
